I gave my blog name plenty of thought. Not money.

The first post on my new blog. Scary!

What could I tell you that makes you want to start or keep reading my blog?

I am not quite sure… But if you like traveling, you’ve come to the right address! 🙂

Let me try that again. Hi everyone! My name is Marly, and I love to make up words. Especially when they have something to do with traveling. Hence my blog’s name “Culturiously“. Seriously culture curious. Get it?

Another one of my favourite portmanteaus (a portman…what?) is “Travelations“.
Travel revelations. In fact, I love that word so much that if I could afford it, I would have bought that exact domain name to start my blog. Unfortunately, travelations[.]com is currently going for the ‘modest’ amount of 12.5 THOUSAND dollars. Ka-ching!

Needless to say, that’s a tiny bit much for an aspiring blogger like me.

The point I am trying to make here is that it is important to think about your blog name before buying a domain. Make sure that your URL is clear, concise, not too grammatically complicated, has a nice ‘ring’ to it at pronouncing the name, and most of all that it relates to what you are planning to present as your blog’s content.

I have learned this lesson the hard way when I decided to name my company MGM Language & Leisure [what was I thinking?!], only to later realise that the URL is prone to typing errors, interaction items like tags and hashtags become unnecessarily long, and the name takes up too much space in limited character messages in SEO and Meta Data or on Social Media platforms such as Twitter.

Long story short, this time I was determined to do it RIGHT. Culturiously.Com it is. Welcome to my blog!

Culturiously Warm Welcome

By now you have probably figured that I am a language nerd. Guilty as charged.
I speak Dutch, English, French, German, Spanish, and Portuguese, but what I really wish I knew more of is Mandarin. Or some other ‘exotic’ language like Russian or Arabic. What? A girl can dream!

I mean, if anyone had told me years ago that one day I would pack a backpack, set off into the world, and never return to my home country, I wouldn’t have dared to believe that person. But it did happen. And how!

Over the past ten years I have traveled throughout Asia, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and all the countries of the Americas. All of them, Marly? Are you sure? OK, I’ll admit. All but Ecuador. Rest assured I will get there some day!

I have also been a bit of a wanderer when it comes to setting up camp. I grew up in the Netherlands, moved to Argentina in my teens, to the USA half way through my twenties, and finally to Australia at the age of ‘being old enough not to want to tell you’. 😉

I’d love to promise I will come up with a better way to introduce my travel blog to you soon, but just in case I can’t (or don’t come round to doing it)…

Let me wish you all a GREAT TIME reading my stories and browsing through my pictures. Enjoy yourself!

Get inspired. Comment. Ask questions. Share your thoughts and experiences.

I’m looking forward to hearing from you!
